Mein Oster-Highlight

Eigentlich habe ich gar keine Zeit, einen Blog zu schreiben. Ich kämpfe mich durch unsere Steuererklärung. Das macht mir nun so überhaupt keinen Spaß. Deswegen lenke ich mich ab und schreibe über unseren Urlaub.

Der Strand von Sangatte

In den Osterferien waren wir mal wieder in unserem heißgeliebten Sunpark Oostduinkerke. Der liegt so ziemlich genau zwischen Ostende und Frankreich an der belgischen Nordseeküste.

Die Luft riecht nach Meer, die Polderlandschaft ist wunderschön und die schreienden Möwen sind für mich ein sicheres Zeichen dafür, dass ich in Urlaub bin.

Mein absolutes Highlight war unser Ausflug an die Cote d’Opale in Frankreich. Die beginnt praktisch gleich hinter Calais und zieht sich bis Boulogne-sur-Mer. Es gibt steile Klippen, wilde Strände, Natur pur und einen atemberaubenden Blick über den Ärmelkanal bis nach Dover.

Fantastisch. Wer sich für Militärgeschichte interessiert, kommt auch auf seine Kosten. Die ganze Küste war ein Teil des Atlantikwalls. Überall sind Bunker und Kriegshinterlassenschaften in dieser sanften Hügellandschaft, dazu ein paar Museen und Gedenkstätten. Diese wunderbare Gegend hat in beiden Weltkriegen so sehr gelitten.

Zum Glück sind das nur noch die Schatten der Vergangenheit. Trotzdem wichtig, daran zu denken.

Cap Gris-nez

Wir waren sowohl am etwas höheren Cap Blanc-Nez als auch am Cap Gris-Nez. Beides ist über die Landstrasse gut zu erreichen und es gibt jede Menge Parkplätze. So konnten wir selbst am Ostersonntag entspannt parken und eine wunderschöne Wanderung hinunter nach Sangatte machen. Sangatte ist ein kleines Dörfchen mit einem großartigen Strand. Es gibt ein kleines Restaurant und einen Bäcker, der zum Glück geöffnet hatte. Wir hatten nämlich (Profis die wir sind!) die Wasserflasche und den Proviant im Auto gelassen. So hatten wir unfassbar saftige Tartes du pomme (kleine Apfeltörtchen), Baguette und Käse am Strand. Auch unsere Hundis haben davon abbekommen.

Natur am Cap Blanc Nez

Die Wanderung hat insgesamt mit Pause am Strand 2,5 Stunden gedauert. Der Weg zurück zum Cap Blanc-nez ist ein bisschen anstrengender weil es die ganze Zeit bergauf geht. Wem das zu anstrengend ist: Einfach in Sangatte am Ortsausgang parken und den Weg umgekehrt laufen, das geht auch…

Favorite Song Lyrics - Part 2: Bruce Springsteen: This Hard Land

This is not an easy one to write because it is SO hard to decide which Bruce Springsteen song I love most. There are just so many great songs to choose from. On the plus side, this will give me lots of opportunities to feature these songs.

Today I bring you “This hard Land”, from the 1995 Greatest Hits Album.

The perfect neo-western evolves in my head every time I hear it. Dark skies, clouds, scattered farms, wide horizons, steep river banks. It's all in these simple words. Life is hard, but together we can make it through. And there is always a ray of hope.

Springsteen himself says in his liner notes:

"I guess this kinda sums it up with one of the ones that got away. Cut in the frontier town of N.Y.C in Jan ‘95 + featuring me + the band + one of my favorite last verses.”

It’s one of my favorite last verses, too! I only wish I could hear it live someday! Here is the video:

5 Things I really look forward to this April

Well, my dear readers, spring has finally sprung in Bonn. And April has a lot to offer!

Here is my list of 5 things that I'm really looking forward to this April:

1. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2

Yes, that IS the biggie! To say I’m just impatient would be an understatement. Guardians are by far my most beloved Marvel heroes. We watched Vol. 1 at an IMAX in London and that was one of the greatest cinematic experiences I’ve ever had! The music! The story! The dance-off! I can’t wait to see Rocket, Groot, Star-Lord, Drax and Gamora again. 


2. SAKURA in Bonn

We have some streets covered in cherry blossoms. It is nice to walk under a pink canopy of trees. It’s only a few days, so I really have to hurry to get this romantic city walk with my love. That's what it looks like:

3. RECORD STORE DAY, April 22th

My Highlights from this years' list:

Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street-Band: Hammersmith Odeon London ‘75. 

This was RSD's 2015 haul. And no, we don't smoke - but we made the picture on bord of a little ship on its way to Bad Godesberg.

4. EASTER HOLIDAYS

Our family holiday is just around the corner. We will pack an awful lot of stuff (for 5 people and 2 dogs) and head to the Belgian Coast, as we always do. Sea, shore, sand, dunes. The perfect getaway. And we will eat a LOT.

5. ASPARAGUS

My favorite veggie is about to return. We have some really good white asparagus growing around here. I love it the traditional way with potatoes in their skin, hollandaise sauce and ham. Yummy!
